Ash tree removal in Fort Wayne, IN
Dead and dying ash get brittle fast. Remove them before they drop limbs, or treat the healthy ones worth saving.
Ash trees in Fort Wayne
The emerald ash borer was first found in Indiana in 2004 and swept through Fort Wayne's ash. By 2013 the city had cut nearly 13,000 ash trees from city property, at a cost approaching $3 million. Ash on private lots died too, and many dead ones are still standing in yards and tree lines.
Dead ash dries out and turns brittle much faster than most species, so limbs drop without warning and climbing the tree becomes risky. Long-dead ash often has to come down with a bucket truck or crane instead of a climber, which affects price.

Remove or treat?
- Most of the canopy dead, or bark splitting and woodpecker damage: remove
- Healthy, valuable ash with little canopy loss: trunk-injection treatments can protect it, usually repeated every few years
- Close to the house, driveway, or lines: have it assessed soon
What affects the price
- Size, and how long it has been dead
- Whether a climber can safely work it
- Targets underneath, like the house, fences, or lines
- Wood hauled away or left in rounds
